Help support Bristol Hospital Broadcasting Service

DONATE TO BHBS

Bristol Hospital Broadcasting Service has been serving the hospital patients of Bristol since 1952. We are a registered charity (No: 1177939) and rely entirely on donations, collections and fundraising efforts to raise the large amount of money needed to continue each year. If you would like to help support us, we are always grateful for all donations we receive.

VOLUNTEER WITH BHBS

BHBS relies on a large team of volunteers to provide its shows and other services. We are always looking for new volunteers who are willing to take part in our activities.

You don’t need to be an expert; we’ll provide all the training you’ll need. We look for people who are keen to assist with all aspects of hospital radio – from ward visiting, assisting in fund raising collections to producing programmes.

We are a hospital radio station, not a community or commercial station. We rely entirely on donations, collections and fundraising efforts to raise the large amount of money needed to continue each year, so all members are expected to pitch in where needed! All our members of BHBS are unpaid volunteers and come from many different backgrounds, occupations and ages.

Volunteering at BHBS means that for sure your musical horizons will be widened as we, in common with other hospital radio stations, place the patients’ musical taste above our own so be prepared to hear a few tracks not found in your own collection!

Primarily our aim is to make patients stay in hospital as comfortable and relaxing as possible.  We visit patients on the wards every evening and provide that friendly face in a busy unfamiliar world. Volunteers with BHBS can undertake any number of roles – choosing to broaden experience across of range of roles or becoming a specialist.

With BHBS you can help us create new and exciting programmes, research programme ideas, man the mixer desk, go out and meet patients and visitors and build your experience to run your own show. And if you’re not technically minded, that’s absolutely fine, we have non-technical roles that are perfect for you too.

A word from one of our volunteers…

“I started volunteering with BHBS over 15 years ago – time flies! I have helped out in many areas of what we do, including helping to train the newest recruits. I’m currently a part of the Saturday Sport presenter team, as well as being a commentator for Bristol Rugby home games from Ashton Gate. I also present the Thursday night edition of Requestline. I can definitely recommend working with BHBS, it’s a great way to have fun while providing a hugely valued service by patients across Bristol’s hospitals.”
